JPSM: Study of the Efficacy, Safety, and Tolerability of THC & CBD in Patients with Intractable Cancer-Related Pain

Multicenter, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled, parallel-group study of the efficacy, safety, and tolerability of THC:CBD extract and THC extract in patients with intractable cancer-related pain

Journal of Pain and Symptom Management:

A combination of THC and CBD extract was more efficacious than an extract of THC alone in a placebo-controlled clinical trial in patients with advanced cancer who had moderate to severe cancer-related pain that was not fully relieved by opioids, demonstrating the analgesic effect of CBD and potential synergistic activity among the active cannabinoids. Twice as many patients who took the THC and CBD extract showed a reduction of more than 30% from baseline pain score when compared with placebo (23 [43%] vs. 12 [21%]) and with the THC extract (12 [23%]).
